ABOUT US

Mandela House is a culturally grounded, dignity-centered support home for men experiencing family crisis, domestic violence, homelessness, or family breakdown. Operated by Ruth’s House Society, it provides safe housing and wraparound care for men who are often overlooked in traditional shelter systems.

Its mission is to help men stabilize, heal, rebuild their lives, and restore dignity through safe housing, counselling, case worker support, referrals, life-skills development, peer connection, and culturally responsive care.

Unlike a standard emergency shelter, Mandela House offers a home-like environment with private rooms, access to kitchen and laundry facilities, groceries, structured routines, and community living. The focus is not only crisis response, but long-term healing, accountability, and transformation.

Vision & Mission

VISION

A community free from family abuse — where men of African descent have the support, resources, and dignity they deserve to rebuild and thrive.

MISSION

To provide safe housing, holistic support, and culturally grounded care that empowers men to rebuild their lives, restore dignity, and break cycles of violence.

"We saw men falling through the cracks in the system. Supporting and working with men and boys is key to creating healthier families, safer relationships, and stronger, toxic-free communities."

— Dee, Founder · Mandela House & Ruth's House Society
